Trailer for film Invisible Years now available
By Stephen Naron - May 15, 2025
The film, is based on Daphne Geismar's book of the same title. Daphne wrote the film adaptation of the book together with directors Kira Dane and Katelyn Robelo. The film was funded by a Vlock Fellowship at the Fortunoff Video Archive and a grant from the Claims Conference.
The film, like the book, tells the story of her extended Jewish family living in the German-occupied Netherlands. The experiences of the De Zoete, Geismar and Cohen families are presented in their own words taken from an extensive family archive of letters, diaries, documents, and interviews, including testimonies at the Fortunoff Video Archive. The film animates the narrators voices by sequencing them with a trove of photographs and artifacts. The montage of intimate stories combine and illuminate the insidious persecution of the Jews, the courage of the resisters, and our common humanity.
