Tragic Killings and Manhunts Underway

In a somber turn of events, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has expressed deep sorrow following a security breach that led to the tragic deaths of two Chinese miners and their police escort in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area. The governor has issued a firm directive to security agencies, urging them to launch an immediate manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. This was conveyed in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma.
Echoing the governor's sentiments, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on South East Development Commission, has called upon the Inspector General of Police and the Abia State Government to ensure the swift arrest of those responsible for the killings. Senator Kalu condemned the attacks on the Chinese expatriates and the police officer, emphasizing the need for immediate action.
Governor Otti has assured that his administration will provide all necessary support to security agents to ensure that the killers are brought to justice. He characterized the attack as an act of terrorism, demanding its condemnation by all. Furthermore, the governor pledged to enhance security collaboration with neighboring states to prevent criminals from using border communities as entry points into Abia State.
The Abia State Police Command reported that the incident occurred when a group of Chinese expatriates and their police escorts were ambushed en route to their company site in Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu Community, Uturu, Isuikwuato LGA. The attack resulted in the deaths of the manager, Mr. Quan, his colleague Mr. Cai, and Inspector Audu Saidu. The assailants also stole Inspector Saidu’s rifle.
According to the police, a distress call prompted an immediate response from the Abia State Police Command, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies. Four Chinese expatriates and two escort police officers were successfully rescued. Inspector Uba Ahmed, who sustained a gunshot injury, and an injured expatriate are receiving treatment at FMC Abakaliki. Inspector Ijeagwa Friday was also rescued unharmed.
Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, has assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police. The Command has provided emergency lines for the public to report any relevant information.
In other news, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's church event was disrupted by suspected armed goons in Mwiki, Kasarani area. Gachagua blamed President William Ruto for the incident, alleging intimidation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In Homa Bay County, a police officer killed his three children before taking his own life due to a dispute with his wife. The officer, David Okebe, was attached to Marsabit Police Station. Preliminary investigations suggest that Okebe disagreed with his wife, who had fled her matrimonial home with the children.
In Meru County, a senior police officer was arrested following a shooting incident in Nkubu. The officer allegedly shot and injured a boda boda rider identified as Festus Mutegi Kirimi. Investigations are ongoing.
Lastly, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has reaffirmed his commitment to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance government. Mudavadi dismissed reports linking him to a new political party, clarifying that he remains fully aligned with the current administration led by President William Ruto.
