Tottenham Hotspur Dismisses WSL Head Coach Robert Vilahamn

Tottenham Hotspur has announced the dismissal of Robert Vilahamn, the head coach of their women's team, after a tenure of two years. The decision comes despite Vilahamn guiding the team to a significant milestone: their first Women's FA Cup final appearance in May 2024. However, this achievement was overshadowed by the team's struggles in the Women's Super League.

The club's performance in the league was a major concern, as Spurs finished second-bottom in this season's standings. Defensively, the team also faced challenges, with only the relegated Crystal Palace conceding more goals throughout the campaign. Furthermore, Tottenham's points tally for the season was a mere 20, a notable decrease of 11 points compared to their record in the 2023-24 campaign, highlighting a significant dip in form.

Andy Rogers, the women's managing director at Tottenham, commented on the decision, stating, "There have been some special moments during Robert's tenure." He acknowledged Vilahamn's contributions but emphasized the club's expectations, adding, "However, results and performances this season have not been to the level we would expect and now is the right time to make a change."

Vilahamn's departure is not an isolated change within the women's team coaching staff. It follows the recent exit of senior assistant coach Vicky Jepson, who had previously left Tottenham to take on a new role with the United States women's youth teams.

This development in the women's team structure occurs shortly after a significant change in the men's side of the club. Just two days prior to Vilahamn's dismissal, Tottenham's men's team also parted ways with their head coach, Ange Postecoglou. This occurred despite Postecoglou leading the men's team to a Europa League victory in the preceding month, indicating a period of substantial managerial changes across Tottenham Hotspur.
