Scott Derrickson's newest creation, The Gorge, was released directly to streaming by Apple TV+, which is also another independent online distributor, even though Apple is a major corporation.
It says a lot for the state of the horror genre that so many smaller films are popular on streaming services and getting more of a chance to be seen. Watching a film in a theater is always better for scary movies, but seeing so many varied films become part of the top ten on streaming shows shows that people love horror and that horror fans are willing to give films outside of the studio system a chance. It is very encouraging for the future of the genre.
