Tomb Raider fans have seen plenty of Lara Croft over the past few years thanks to her stepping into the world of other video games while also starring in remastered trilogies as well as her own Netflix show. However, she hasn’t been the leading lady in a new AAA adventure since Shadow of the Tomb Raider all the way back in 2018. While we haven’t seen any footage, we do know that Crystal Dynamics has been developing a new game for several years now. We don’t know when it is planned to arrive, but Embracer’s recent financial report shows that the .
In Embracer’s Q4 & Year-End report posted on May 22nd, there isn’t any explicit mention of Tomb Raider. However, the report states “Crystal Dynamics recently signed an agreement with an external partner for one of its largest IPs”. The report further mentions that Crystal Dynamics has “accelerated business development, both with new and existing partners, to expand the project portfolio, including co-development, with more deployment of further internal development resources across the Embracer group”.

Again, Tomb Raider isn’t explicitly mentioned by name, but it is likely what’s being referred to as it is Crystal Dynamic’s biggest IP. The studio also owns other big IPs such as Legacy of Kain and Thief, but there are no new games for either of these properties known to be in-development unlike Tomb Raider 12.
If it is the next Tomb Raider being referred to, then the post simply means Crystal Dynamics has brought in an “external partner” to help with development. Recently, a job listing from Crystal Dynamics suggested strike teams were being deployed for TR12, hinting the game is in the latter stages of development.
Away from speaking about Crystal Dynamics, Embracer’s report also mentions that a AAA game has been internally delayed from FY 2025/26 to FY 2026/27. Per the report, “management is now taking the more prudent view that the game will likely need a few more quarters to polish,” and it’s expected that this unnamed game will deliver “financial dynamics more similar to Kingdom Come: Deliverance II”.

Financial year 2026/27 means between April 2026 to April 2027. Again, there’s no mention of Tomb Raider by name, but October 2026 would be the perfect time for TR12 to release as it would coincide with the series’ 30th anniversary. The first ever Tomb Raider experience debuted on PS1 back in 1996 on October 25th.
Keeping things strictly related to Tomb Raider, there is the possibility it might appear at Summer Game Fest 2025. NateTheHate was asked if TR12, Project 007, and Wolf Among Us 2 will be present, and the renowned leaker stated “At least one” of the three games will appear at Geoff Keighley’s event.
A verified movie leaker named vthescooper has also stated they “can see the announcement coming soon”. TR12 is the only video game they have discussed, and they have reported that it is an open-world adventure in India where Lara will be able to freely traverse on a motorcycle while competing to collect ancient relics against a society of raiders. This isn’t official, but vthescooper mentioned the society of raiders before it was plastered all over the official Tomb Raider website encouraging fans to sign up.
As for what we officially know, the game will be published by Amazon Games, it is using the Unreal Engine 5, and it stars a unified Lara Croft. It’s also heavily implied that Lara will have her dual pistols back again as all of the unified Lara promotional material seen in other games, such as most recently Pinball FX, have featured her in a blue tank top and cargo shorts with the iconic guns.
Hopefully we do see Tomb Raider at Summer Game Fest as fans are understandably craving a new AAA adventure starring Miss Croft.
In other gaming news, Jeff Grubb has stated a PlayStation event will happen in June and is most likely a State of Play.
