Before his performance, Sandoval candidly addressed his public image, stating, 'My name is Tom Sandoval, I was the most hated man in America. This is the chance to show who I am as a musician.'

Sandoval's appearance on AGT comes a little over two years after a major cheating scandal, dubbed 'Scandoval', erupted in March 2023. This highly publicized affair involved his Vanderpump Rules costar Rachel 'Raquel' Leviss, while he was in a nine-year relationship with long-term girlfriend Ariana Madix. Madix discovered intimate messages between Sandoval and Leviss, leading to the dramatic end of their relationship and reigniting filming on season 10 of Vanderpump Rules to capture the fallout.

During his AGT audition, Sandoval, dressed in a sparkly emerald jacket, black pants, and sneakers, energetically sang and danced across the stage. Initially, judges Simon Cowell, Sofía Vergara, and Mel B watched with skeptical expressions, but Simon eventually cracked a smile as the performance progressed.
