Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 Gets a New Release Date

Published 3 weeks ago3 minute read

Tom Holland's new Spider-Man film has to make way for another highly-anticipated blockbuster.

Per Deadline, Marvel Studios' still-untitled Spider-Man 4 was delayed a week from July 24, 2026 to July 31, dropping the same weekend as an upcoming PAW Patrol sequel. More notably, the film will come out two weeks after the release of Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated The Odyssey adaptation, whose cast includes both Holland and his Spider-Man co-star/fiance Zendaya in undisclosed roles.

Jeff Trammell admits it "meant a lot to me" having a fan-favorite Marvel actor return for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man's surprise twist.

Little is known about Spider-Man 4 outside of Holland's return, with the previous film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, ending with Peter Parker starting his life anew after Doctor Strange made the world -- including girlfriend Michelle Jones-Watson and best friend Ned Leeds -- forget his secret identity. According to longtime Spider-Man movie producer Amy Pascal, this decision will tie directly into the next stage of Peter's future, stating, "We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker, and that he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard. So that’s what the movie is about."

No Way Home also featured a mid-credits connection to Sony's Venom franchise, with a piece of Eddie Brock's symbiote remaining on Earth-199999 after Strange's spells accidentally sent him to Peter's dimension and back.

Since No Way Home's release, Sony has continued to make Spider-Man-adjacent movies outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, from Venom 3: The Last Dance and Madame Web to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. While Across the Spider-Verse garnered critical acclaim, most of Sony's live-action films have received more mixed-to-negative reviews, including last year's Kraven the Hunter starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular Spider-Man antagonist.

The MCU, meanwhile, recently visited an alternate Spider-Man universe in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, in which Norman Osborn discovered and mentored Peter while the events of Captain America: Civil War played out in the background. The series has been renewed for two more seasons, with season 1's ending laying the groundwork for various supervillain origins -- including Otto Octavius and Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone -- and the surprise reveal that Peter's father is still alive.

Alongside Holland and Zendaya, Matt Damon will play The Odyssey's lead Odysseus, a Trojan War veteran who spends ten years desperately trying to return home after the war and defying gods and monsters along the way. Universal Pictures unveiled a first look at the movie earlier this week, highlighting a bearded Damon -- who previously collaborated with Nolan on Interstellar and Oppenheimer -- dressed in a Greek helmet and armor. Other confirmed cast members include Elliot Page and Robert Pattinson, who also worked with the Oscar-winning director on Inception and Tenet respectively.

Spider-Man 4 releases in theaters on July 31, 2026.
