President Bola Tinubu will on Saturday, May 31, inaugurate Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as part of his working visit to Lagos, the Presidency said on Monday.

The highway, one of the flagship infrastructure projects of his administration, will be inaugurated alongside other key developments including the Lekki Deep Sea Port Tax Credit Concrete Road, the flag-off of Section II of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and the 7th Axial Road.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will also perform virtual inaugurations of several road projects across northern Nigeria, including the Kano-Kanwar-Danja-Hadejiya Section II Road, Yakasai-Zalli Road, and the Kano Northern By-pass. Others include the Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai Section I, Dabai-Kafur-Malumfashi, and Malumfashi-Dayi-Yashe-Gidan Mutum Daya Section III.

The President will be in Lagos from Tuesday to also participate in activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States, which he currently chairs.

The ECOWAS golden jubilee, flagged off in Accra in April 2025, will continue in Lagos with commemorative events, including a reenactment of the 1975 declaration at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island.

At the Eko Hotels and Suites, President Tinubu will deliver a keynote address highlighting the bloc’s milestones.

He will be joined by the only surviving Head of State who signed the 1975 declaration, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), who is expected to deliver a commemorative speech.

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray, will give the welcome address.

Renowned diplomat and former Minister of External Affairs, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, will lead a review of ECOWAS’s 50-year journey, with further analyses by expert panellists at the NIIA.

President Tinubu will observe Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the State House, Dodan Barracks, before returning to Abuja.
