Tinubu Commissions Abuja Rural Infrastructure Projects

President Bola Tinubu recently commissioned the 15-kilometre A2-Junction to Pai Road, located in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This infrastructure project, spanning from the Abuja-Lokoja expressway to Pai Town, marks a significant milestone in his administration's efforts to commemorate its second anniversary in office and demonstrates a strong commitment to rural development and economic upliftment.

During the commissioning, President Tinubu emphasized that road and infrastructure development are only meaningful when they directly benefit the populace. He highlighted the strategic importance of the Pai Road, stating it would support opportunities for the establishment of ranches, foster rural development, and uplift the lives of rural people, thereby transforming what was once a source of conflict into a means of prosperity. The President observed, during his journey to the site, the clear need for farmers and livestock owners to establish grazing opportunities, pledging government support to facilitate these necessary changes and enhance productivity.

The newly constructed road is both symbolic and strategic, opening new corridors for agriculture, commerce, education, mobility, and other vital sectors. It aims to strengthen Nigeria's national economy from the grassroots up, recognizing the significant contributions rural communities like Pai make to the country's social and economic fabric, particularly in food production and local enterprises. For too long, the potential of these communities has been hampered by poor road access, isolation, and neglect, issues that this project seeks to definitively address.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike lauded President Tinubu for his unwavering emphasis on improving infrastructure across both the city and satellite towns since assuming office on May 29, 2023. Minister Wike revealed that under President Tinubu’s leadership, not less than 150 kilometers of roads have either been completed or are currently ongoing within the FCT’s satellite towns and Area Councils. This extensive road network is crucial for enhancing security response, providing better access for law enforcement, and supporting the government's food security agenda by enabling real farmers, not just speculators, to access their farmlands and markets more efficiently.

Among the completed emergency roads approved in the 2023 supplementary budget are the 9km Paikon-Kore–Ibwa road in Gwagwalada Area Council, the 5km Gaba–Tokulo road in Bwari Area Council (with a two-span river bridge), and the 5km Asphalt carriageway from Tipper Garage Junction to LEA Secretariat in Kuje Area Council. Other completed projects include the 11km Yangoji–Sukuku–Ebo Road in Kwali Area Council, the 5km Saburi 1 & 2 Road in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), and the Aguma Palace–Radio Nigeria–New Market Road in Gwagwalada Area Council. Additionally, several roads are scheduled for commissioning, such as the 18km Karshi–Nyanya road, the 7.4km Old Ushafa Road, the Rehabilitation of Dutse–Lower Usman Dam, and the 16.4km Dualisation of Ushafa–War College–Army Checkpoint Road.

President Tinubu urged Nigerians, particularly residents of the FCT and the Pai community, to take full ownership of the newly delivered infrastructure. He stressed the importance of protecting, maintaining, and utilizing these projects to improve livelihoods, transform communities, stimulate the economy, and bridge development gaps. The road is envisioned as a pathway to growth and a bridge to a better life for farmers, traders, students, and youth.

The traditional ruler of Pai, Sarkin Pai, Alhaji Sani Abubakar, expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for his visionary leadership and for appointing Minister Wike to the FCT. He highlighted the transformative impact of the new road, noting that it has significantly opened up economic activities and alleviated previous challenges in transporting goods to market, bringing widespread happiness and appreciation from the community.
