Timberland names ex-Dr Martens creative chief to global role - FashionNetwork Israel

Timberland has a new global VP of product design and creative direction with the VF Corp-owned brand appointing ex-Dr Martens creative director Darren Mckoy to the role.

It’s a return to VF for the man who was The North Face’s EMEA product manager from December 2010 to February 2012.

The news comes just a few months after McKoy left the UK heritage-meets-fashion footwear label in January having been creative chief for three years. But he’d progressed through a number of different roles at the business having started there in 2015. Before joining Dr Martens, he’d also been at Adidas, Mamas & Papas, Asics and, as mentioned, another VF Corp label, The North Face.

Mckoy said on LinkedIn that he’s “been fortunate to work with heritage brands, shaping stories, building products, and collaborating with teams committed to connecting brand, consumer, and culture with purpose. I’m excited to carry my experiences and learnings into Timberland, and to contribute to what comes next”.

While Timberland offers a full product line-up across clothing and accessories, it’s best known for its famous boots so in that respect, Mckoy will find himself working in similar categories after Dr Martens.

And he’s not the only creative appointment Timberland has made this year. In February, it announced the appointment of Drew Villani to the role of global creative director, marketing.

Having previously been at Calvin Klein, he’s responsible for bringing the label’s creative vision to life across all aspects of brand marketing.
