TikToker Murja Kunya jailed for naira abuse
Kunya was by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in March for allegedly mutilating the naira notes by “spraying them for fun” at a hotel.
The anti-graft agency stated that she had initially been arrested in January, granted bail, but later jumped bail and avoided court proceedings, leading to her rearrest.
The EFCC confirmed that Kunya was detained at their Kano zonal office before being arraigned in court.
On Wednesday, she appeared before Simone Amobeda of the Kano federal high court, where she pleaded guilty to an amended one-count charge of naira abuse.
Her conviction comes amid the EFCC’s intensified crackdown on naira abuse, citing of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act.
Bobrisky, the social media celebrity, was in Lagos on April 4, 2024, for defacing naira notes. The crossdresser was on a six-count charge.
Socialite Cubana Chief Priest was also over alleged naira abuse.
Last month, E-Money was at his Omole residence in Lagos and taken to the EFCC’s Abuja office for interrogation. He was the following night.
The agency had also invited actress Iyabo Ojo and AY Makun, the comedian, for questioning.
Last year, Kunya was in prison after she was arrested by the Kano Hisbah board over alleged immoral acts.
