Three Killed in Hamburg Hospital Fire

A serious fire erupted at the Marienkrankenhaus hospital in Hamburg, Germany, early on Sunday morning, leading to multiple casualties. The blaze originated in a room within the geriatric ward located on the ground floor of the facility. According to reports, the fire quickly spread to the floor directly above, and smoke permeated a significant portion of the four-storey building.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident shortly after midnight. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered several patients at the windows calling for assistance. Rescue operations were immediately initiated, with some individuals being brought to safety using ladders. The swift response was crucial in mitigating further harm, though tragically, the fire claimed the lives of three adults.

In addition to the fatalities, more than 30 people sustained injuries. The German news agency dpa reported that one of the injured individuals is currently in a life-threatening condition. Furthermore, 18 people suffered serious injuries, while another 15 incurred minor injuries as a result of the fire and smoke. A portion of the hospital building required evacuation to ensure the safety of patients and staff. The majority of those injured were treated on-site at the Marienkrankenhaus, while two individuals with injuries were transferred to other nearby medical clinics for care.

Firefighting crews managed to extinguish the blaze within approximately 20 minutes of their arrival. Despite the rapid containment, the incident caused significant disruption and distress. The precise cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the tragic event.
