This AI company backed by Amazon and Google has banned the use of AI tools in hiring

Anthropic, the developer of the AI assistant Claude backed by the likes of Amazon and Google, now requires job applicants to certify they won't use AI tools when applying for positions at the company. The policy applies to nearly all of

Anthropic

's approximately 150 current job openings, spanning roles from software engineering to sales and communications.

"While we encourage people to use AI systems during their role to help them work faster and more effectively, please do not use AI assistants during the application process," states the company's application form.
Applicants must explicitly agree to this requirement, as Anthropic says it wants to evaluate candidates' "

non-AI-assisted communication

skills" and understand their genuine interest in the company.
The requirement notably excludes some technical positions, such as mobile product designer roles. The policy was first highlighted by open source developer Simon Willison, drawing attention to the apparent contradiction of an AI company restricting the use of its own technology.
The move comes as

AI writing assistants

, including Anthropic's Claude, have become increasingly sophisticated at generating human-like text.
