A drone light show involves multiple drones equipped with LED lights flying in synchronised formations to create patterns and images in the sky. These drones are pre-programmed to shift positions and change colours in harmony, often timed with music or other visual elements.

The Purple Tower, a 14-storey building located along Mombasa Road, will be opened on Wednesday, May 28, with the spectacle.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Amrish Shah of Urban Green Consultants promised a show like no other, while describing the building as being constructed using trailblazing green technology.

““Nairobi is set to experience a one-of-a-kind show, with hundreds of synchronised drones, each equipped with bright LED lights, flying in coordinated patterns. These drones will form various shapes in the sky, lighting up the night with stunning visuals,” the official said.

So how is the Purple Tower eco-friendly?

"The building represents a move towards environmentally conscious design. It is designed to lower energy consumption by 27%, reduce water use by 41%, and cut embodied material energy by 33%, positioning it among the most sustainable structures in East Africa," the official said.

The building accomplishes this by using high-performance thermal glass, energy-saving lighting systems, and an intelligent building management system designed to reduce energy consumption.

Water savings come from low-flow plumbing fixtures and possible rainwater harvesting methods. The official also noted that sustainable, locally sourced materials significantly contribute to lowering the building’s carbon footprint.

According to the developer, the launch of the building, described as an architectural masterpiece, using Kenya’s first drone light show is a major milestone for the country.

“It marks Nairobi’s step into the ranks of leading global cities embracing both innovation in entertainment and sustainable development. Bring your friends, grab your cameras, and be part of this unforgettable night under the stars,” the official said.

In other news, a viral video showed a window cleaner working high up on the One Africa building in Westlands, Nairobi.

Filmed by a passerby, the man was seen carefully descending the glass exterior with a safety harness, bucket, and cleaning tools in hand.

The impressive 21-storey skyscraper, known for its modern features like facial recognition, automated parking, and energy-efficient design, served as the backdrop.

A woman filming the scene expressed concern for his safety, sparking online reactions, with some admiring his bravery, others joking about people still asking him for money despite the risks.
