The long-awaited Devil Wears Prada sequel will be in theaters next spring—now that's groundbreaking. On Thursday, multiple outlets confirmed that the film is officially in production at Disney after it was first announced last July.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set for a May 1, 2026 release date. None of the original cast members, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, have yet signed on to return.
The original film follows Andy Sachs, a new assistant to the icy editor-in-chief of a major fashion magazine, Miranda Priestly (Streep). Based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel of the same, the 2006 flick has since been developed into a musical, which debuted in Chicago in 2022.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 focuses on Priestly as she navigates the decline of print journalism. Per Variety, she "faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs."
Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who adapted the first film, will also pen the sequel.

Last spring, Hathaway expressed her skepticism that a Devil Wears Prada 2 would ever come to fruition. In two separate interviews, she said she “wouldn’t hold out too much hope” and didn't "think a continuation of that story [was] probably ever gonna happen."
Blunt seemingly confirmed the sequel's existence in December while speaking at the Red Sea International Film Festival.
"There are rumblings," she said. "There is stuff churning around. But I don’t know if I can confirm anything. But we would all be delighted.”
