The city of Dallas is celebrating some big sports news tonight. It's official, Cooper Flagg is headed to the Mavericks after being drafted with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft.

The news has been a good while in the making, as the Mavs were highly expected to draft Flagg—formerly a forward for college basketball powerhouse Duke—after they won the top pick through the NBA lottery despite being a longshot to win it.

Moments after the news, the Dallas Cowboys joined the celebration by posting an edit of Flagg reading "Welcome to Dallas, Cooper Flagg."

"I'm feeling amazing," Flagg said after being picked. "It's a dream come true, to be honest."

Though highly celebrated, the rookie is headed to Dallas only months after the Mavericks broke the hearts of the fanbase by trading away the rising face of the NBA, Luka Doncic. The deal with the Los Angeles Lakers was so controversial that it resulted in loud and passionate protests outside the Mavs stadium, American Airlines Center.

The franchise hopes it can parlay its luck of winning the NBA lottery into forgiveness from its fans. It will be easier said than done.

The Mavs are expected to be a solid team next season, though they're far from favorites. Per preseason betting odds, they currently rank 11th in odds to win next year's championship. The Mavericks ended last season 39-43.

It's always cool to see teams support one another on social media and you can tell the Cowboys had that post ready to go based on how quick they were to post it.

Both franchises are looking to do right b y their fanbases going into 2025, each with very different storylines. The Mavs are looking to redeem themselves from one of the most criticized trades in sports history. The Cowboys are trying to put an end to a 30-year Super Bowl (and NFC Championship Game) drought. Let's see how things go.
