The first taste of spring style is as exhilarating as stepping outside and realizing you don’t need a coat. The heavy layers of winter start to shed, and suddenly, the urge to refresh your wardrobe sets in. With that shift comes a new color palette, one that trades the depth of colder months for something lighter, crisper, and just as impactful.

“Spring is a season of new birth and awakening so that always translates into the way that people dress," Karina Trofimova, a fashion consultant and founder of Haus Incubator, tells InStyle. "We start to play around with brighter hues after a long winter." This year's spring/summer 2025 runways offered up a fresh take on seasonal color. Powder pinks at Miu Miu and Brandon Maxwell showed the dynamic power soft hues offer, while Sabato De Sarno's Gucci emphasized rich grays. "I’m betting on gray taking over this spring for my more neutral girlies," Trofimova predicts. "Gray is 100% the new black this season.”

As winter fades and the days stretch longer, it’s time to embrace the season's chromatic shift. Ahead, are four color trends that will define the upcoming spring season.

Pink has been the diamond of the season for some time now. There was the electric hot pink of Barbiecore, and now designers are shifting toward softer pastel shades. At Brandon Maxwell’s spring/summer runway show, models floated down the catwalk in airy blush-toned gowns and skirts. The shift feels less in-your-face but just as bold.

Red is having a full-throttle moment for spring 2025, setting the runways ablaze with its fiery energy. Unlike burgundy shades, this season’s take on the classic hue is richer and impossible to ignore. At Ferragamo, bold accents and sculptural coats breathed new life into the color, while Bottega Veneta played with timeless classic silhouettes.

Often seen as a polarizing shade, tangerine is here to up the ante in your spring wardrobe. Matthieu Blazy's Bottega Veneta spring/summer 2025 collection showcased sunset-like hues, infusing the collection with a warm, dynamic palette. Even Prada embraced the citrusy tone, sending out structured skirts in rich, saturated orange.

Neutrals in spring usually evoke soft tans and beiges, but in 2025, gray is taking center stage. This season, cool tones are the focus—everything from light silvers to deeper charcoals. At Gucci’s spring/summer 2025 runway show, gray made a statement through sharp coats and tailored pants. Whether paired with bold accents or worn as a monochrome ensemble, gray is giving neutrals a fresh twist this season.
