The Best Beauty Looks From the 2025 Met Gala | ELLE Canada Magazine | Beauty, Fashion and Lifestyle Trends & Celebrity News
Fashion giant and Dandy icon André Leon Talley once spoke of a “famine of beauty” in the American sartorial scene, but the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” themed 2025 Met Gala served up a feast for the eyes, with endless makeup, hair and manicure moments to devour.
While the “Tailored for You” dress code gave rise to sharp suiting, exaggerated capes and dapper chapeaux, “Superfine” beauty came to fruition in the form of sculptural hairdos, ultra-fly nails, facial embellishments, and statement lips honouring the expressive glamour of Black dandies.

Making an unforgettable Met Gala debut, “Denial is a River” rapper Doechii opted for a voluminous afro, picked to perfection by Malcolm Marquez, which was also styled with slick laminated brows, glossy lids, flushed cheeks and a well-defined chocolate lip look, painted by Chelsea Uchenna. The pièce de résistance? A small Louis Vuitton prosthetic logo stamped onto her right cheek, matching her dapper LV ensemble.

Rihanna’s take on Dandy glamour involved using a full face of her Fenty Beauty brand to create a radiant look that shone from every angle. Standout products included the Soft’Lit Naturally Luminous Longwear Foundation, the Shadowstix Longwear Eyeshadow Stick in “Cumin Get It”, and the Gloss Bomb Stix Shimmer in “Fu$y.” As for hair, the soon-to-be mother of three sported a deliberately tousled fishtail braid that hung down her back to her hips.

Peaking out from beneath her Bianca Jagger-inspired chapeau, Zendaya went for a slicked-back chignon and a sophisticated beat by Ernesto Casillas using Charlotte Tilbury. To sketch out her ’90s supermodel-inspired lip look, Casillas used the new Super Nudes Shapewear Lip Cheat Duo in “Tan” to contour, followed by the Big Plump Lipgasm in “Nudegasm Diamonds” for a high-shine finish.

Channelling the vibrance of the disco era, Chappell Roan elevated her magenta patchwork suit with voluminous hair styled by Lacy Redway. She also opted for pink stiletto claws by Dawn Sterling using O.P.I’s “Grape Escape” and “Without a Pout” polishes. Roan’s technicolour glam was painted entirely with Pat McGrath Labs products, including the Mothership XII: Peralmorphosis palette, and accentuated by arched bedazzled brows.

Embodying dandyism to a tee in all its fine glory, Teyana Taylor took to the Met steps wearing a silky merlot durag topped with a feathered hat. On either side, dramatically swirled baby hairs sculpted with Shea Moisture products by Lateafa Alvaranga framed Taylor’s face. The “Rose in Harlem” singer continued to bring out the burgundy hues in her tailored attire with a matching eye and lip look that featured subtle rouge undertones.

Canadian actress and former ELLE Canada cover star Whitney Peak was a vision of refined beauty with her sultry glam and statement pout, courtesy of Chanel’s Le Crayon Lèvres in “192 Prune Noir” and the Le Rouge Duo in “194 Intense Nude,” sketched by Tyron Machhausen. To round out the look, Naeemah LaFond crafted a braided masterpiece, while Betina Goldstein hand-sculpted and painted cigarette nail art.

Styled by Peter Lux, Dua Lipa’s sculptural updo was a Met-worthy work of art with Josephine Baker-esque kiss curls gelled into place around her hairline. For makeup, Katie Jane Hughes dusted glittery shadow across the friend-of-Chanel’s eyes, painted doll-like lashes and swiped her cheeks and lips with a complimentary rosy shade.

If there’s one person who knows how to turn a manicure into a moment on any given red carpet, it’s Cynthia Erivo. Her right-hand manicurist, Mycah Dior, incorporated elements of classic suit accessories—like pocket squares, ties and buttons—into her nail art to bring the “Tailored for You” dress code down to Erivo’s fingertips. In the makeup department, the Wicked actress opted for soft glam with an ombre pout and a heart detail on her cheek.

According to celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose, Lupita Nyong’o’s Little Richard-inspired look called for “glowing, radiant skin with iridescent bronze tones on cheeks and lips, with rockstar eyes and embellished, bejewelled brows,” all brought to life by Chanel makeup. To elevate her ‘do, hairstylist Vernon François adorned her hip-length loc ponytail with chic floral accents.

Doja Cat’s full-bodied ‘frohawk, styled by Vernon François, was “Superfine” indeed. For the pop star’s retro beat, Dame Pat McGrath played with contrasting colours to craft lilac lids, feline strokes of eyeliner and a bold red lip created using Pat McGrath Labs’ Dramatique Mega Lip Pencils in “Garnet Glow” and “Elson.”
