Thane railway station upgrade: New commercial tower to open by June 2026 | Thane News - Times of India
THANE: The initial phase of the ambitious
Thane railway station upgrade
plan is likely to be operational by June 2026, it is learnt.
The
Rail Land Development Authority
(RLDA), which is working with Thane Smart City Limited to develop a multi-modal transit hub at the existing Thane railway station, has announced plans to complete work on an 11-storey commercial building (including basement) on the east side of the station by mid-2026. The agency is now in the process of inviting bids from interested business houses to start operations from the facility.
Officials explained that the building, identified as Tower-1, is part of the total
Thane station revamp project
and is spread over 9,000 sqm on the east side of the station adjoining platform 10. The 11-level building will have a basement parking facility, and the next two floors will be reserved for passenger movement and connected to the Satis deck on either side of the station. The upper eight floors, with a total built-up area of 24,280 sqm, will be ready by June 2026 and will be leased to interested parties for 60 years.
“The RLDA has invited Expression of Interest (EOI) from interested applicants for the grant of leasehold rights of vertical leasable air space at the Thane Railway Station. The leasable area will be provided as a bare-shell structure, while the common areas and utilities will be constructed by the RLDA. We plan to hand over the leasable space in the building tentatively by the end of June 2026,” said a RLDA statement.
Authorities working on the project claim the location of the commercial complex and the access to multi-modes of transport could be a key attraction point for potential business units to set shop at the under-construction commercial unit.
“The building will be accessible by the railways and public transport buses through an elevated road link being constructed by the Thane Corporation connecting the Eastern Expressway and the metro-4 line. Private vehicles can also access the building and could utilise the parking space within the premises,” said an official working on the project.
