Tension in Hohoe as court bailiff, SALL petitioners confronted by angry youth at Amewu's residence

Published 1 week ago2 minute read

The court bailiff, Victor Akorli, accompanied by three individuals, had gone to the former Energy Minister’s residence to execute a substituted service of an Appeals Court order from Koforidua regarding the SALL case.

The team was also joined by two reporters from the Ghana News Agency and UTV.

In July 2024, the Ho High Court dismissed the SALL election petition filed by Prof. Margaret Kwaku and four others, challenging the validity of Amewu’s election as Hohoe MP in 2020.

The case was dismissed due to lack of jurisdiction. Dissatisfied with the ruling, the petitioners proceeded to the Court of Appeal in Koforidua, where they secured an order for substituted service to be served on Amewu ahead of a hearing set for Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

According to court documents obtained by , the service was to be posted on the notice boards of the Court of Appeal in Koforidua, the High Court in Hohoe, the High Court in Ho, and on the gate of Amewu’s residence in Hohoe.

However, tensions flared when the court bailiff arrived at Amewu’s residence to serve the order.

Sources indicate that as the bailiff was pasting the documents on the gate, the security guard alerted some youth, who arrived at the scene and confronted the bailiff and his team.

The individuals present included George Ani Bansah, a former NDC Chairman for Hohoe, Dr. Joe Addae—both of whom have represented the petitioners in court—and an unidentified National Security operative.

In the heat of the confrontation, the National Security operative reportedly drew a sidearm to deter what appeared to be a mob attack.

Court sources have confirmed the incident but stated that the bailiff managed to escape unhurt.

While initial reports suggested that armed men raided Amewu’s residence, further investigations have revealed otherwise, confirming that the men were only at the gate to paste the court documents.
