After a year of fierce competition since it entered Brazil, the Chinese cross-border e-commerce platform Temu from PDD Holdings has now reportedly reached the second spot in the country.
The market analytics institution, Conversion, recently published data for the Brazilian consumer market for April. E-commerce sites experienced a 1.4% drop in visits, but app visits grew 0.8% compared to March. However, . It is the 12th consecutive month that the platform has seen significant growth.
With this boost in visits, Temu surpassed competitor Shopee in April with a 9.9% traffic share, ranking number 2 in Brazil in terms of traffic. Temu had just overtaken Amazon in Brazil this March, claiming third place. This put Temu just below the 12.3% share of all e-commerce traffic, as well as more new users than Mercado Libre in April.
Brazil is the largest e-commerce market in Latin America with a steady pace of growth. The sales in , exceeding market expectations by 0.5 percentage points. However, there is stiff competition with Mercado Libre and Shopee also investing in the country. Just last month, Meituan’s Keeta and Didi also entered Brazil, meaning a similar battle is also coming to the food delivery sector. Whether these Chinese platforms can reach the height of Temu is definitely worth watching.
