Technology-focused firm launches in Kenya
Kenyan lawyers and have opened the doors to , a new technology-focused law firm headquartered in Nairobi. The founding partners announced the launch on Tuesday (20 May).
Cavendrys will advise businesses in the technology, telecommunications, fintech, data, innovation and IP sectors across the spectrum of technology transactions and commercial structuring, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), telecommunications and digital infrastructure, digital finance, data protection and privacy, emerging technologies, AI and software as a service (SaaS), and innovation.
The firm is also set to provide free legal advice to technology startups through its work with the Tech Law Clinic and will promote data privacy and responsible technology use with the Digital Rights Advocacy, as well as support women in technology law and policy through the Women in Tech Mentorship Program.
Mulika said in a statement: “We built Cavendrys to meet the real, fast-evolving needs of tech-first businesses. Our clients need more than legal advice, they need strategic partners.”
Othero added: “As a women-led firm, we bring [an] approach to legal practice [that’s] agile, commercial, and deeply connected to Africa’s innovation ecosystem.”
Mulika and Othero both previously worked at . Mulika joined the firm in 2011 and was promoted to partner in 2018, before her appointment as deputy managing partner in 2019.
Othero joined the firm in 2012 and was promoted to partner in 2020. The two lawyers left the firm in December last year.
TripleOKLaw also appointed Marysheila Onyango-Odour as its first female managing partner in February this year. She replaced John Ohaga, who departed after 23 years in the role.
