Palantir CEO Alex Karp, one of the biggest beneficiaries of the artificial intelligence revolution, warned that the technology can cause “deep societal upheavals” unless the industry works very hard to prevent them. Knewz.com has learned that Karp made the remarks during a televised conversation about AI's implications for employment.

Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, one of the world's most powerful AI creators, warned that the technology could "wipe out" half of all entry-level white-collar jobs and spike unemployment to 10-20% in the next one to five years. Amodei said he's speaking out "in hopes of jarring government and fellow AI companies into preparing — and protecting — the nation," reports have noted.

It has been reported that major companies are already slowing early-career hiring, and economists have observed a notable decline in junior roles across sectors like technology, finance, law, consulting and other white-collar professions. Aneesh Raman, LinkedIn’s chief economic opportunity officer, also noted that AI is "increasingly threatening the types of jobs that historically have served as stepping stones for young workers who are just beginning their careers," according to reports. For instance, AI tools can be used for simple coding and debugging tasks that junior software developers perform in an entry-level position.

It has been reported that lawmakers have yet to completely grasp the dangers AI reportedly poses to early-career employment. On the other hand, CEOs are afraid to talk about it because using an AI tool instead of hiring a young person from the job market is more cost-effective. "Almost overnight, business leaders see the savings of replacing humans with AI — and do this en masse. They stop opening up new jobs, stop backfilling existing ones, and then replace human workers with agents or related automated alternatives," reports have warned. While President Donald Trump has been quiet on the job risks posed by AI, Steve Bannon predicted on his "War Room" podcast that AI job-killing will be a major issue in the 2028 presidential campaign. Anthropic CEO Amodei also commented on how oblivious the workforce is to the reportedly impending job apocalypse, saying, "Most of them are unaware that this is about to happen. ... It sounds crazy, and people just don't believe it."

During the conversation, Karp said that the kind of AI that Palantir is doing can be “net accretive to the workforce in America,” but only if “we work very, very hard at it.” However, he also added that the industry has to ensure that AI has an overall additive effect. “We have to will it to be, because otherwise we’re going to have deep societal upheavals that I think many in our elite are just really ignoring,” Karp said. "Those of us in tech cannot have a tin ear to what this is going to mean for the average person," he added.
