Suzanne Watson Markofski | Iredell Free News
, 87, of Mooresville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. She was born on September 27, 1937, in Orangeburg, S,C,, to the late Hawkins and Sue Hough Watson.
She attended Furman University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1959. It was there that she met the love of her life for 62 years, Don. They were married in 1959 and began a lifelong adventure that started with Don’s military service and later transitioned to civilian life. His career with Burlington Industries led to many relocations, taking them to Virginia, Tennessee, New Jersey and North Carolina. In 1975, the relocations came to an end when they settled in Mooresville, which became their forever home. Suzanne became an educator with the Mooresville Graded School District. Her passion for teaching was surpassed only by her deep care and compassion for her students. She especially loved running into former students while shopping or dining out, always cherishing those unexpected reunions and genuinely making everyone feel truly special. She particularly enjoyed her Tuesday evening dinners at Joe Fish, where they treated her like family.
Suzanne was a devoted member of First Baptist Church Mooresville and absolutely adored her church family. After each service, she would greet everyone with her beautiful smile and a warm hug. She deeply loved her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don Markofski.
She is survived by her children, Stephanie Coleman (Ty) of Wesley Chapel, N.C., Donald “Mark” Raymond Markofski Jr. (Sharon) of Morehead City, N.C., and Steve Markofski (Beth) of Irvine, Calif.; grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Parker, Scott, Taylor, Kyle, and Max; and great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Evan, Isaac, and Nina.
