Supreme Court to hear injunction against CJ's removal on April 2
The Supreme Court will hear an injunction against CJ's removal on April 2, 2025
The Supreme Court will hear the injunction application filed by the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, against the processes to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
In a writ filed at the apex court on Thursday, March 27, 2025, the MP is requesting the court to declare President John Mahama’s decision to forward the petitions seeking the removal of the Chief Justice to the Council of State for consultation as null and void.
According to the plaintiff, the president is required by the provisions of the constitution to first notify the Chief Justice about the petitions and obtain her response before consulting the Council of State.
On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed that the president had received three separate petitions and had forwarded them to the Council of State to commence the consultation process mandated by Article 146 of the constitution.
