Producers Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, actors Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Shashank Arora and Nikhil Madhok - Head of Originals, Prime Video India attended the trailer launch of their film Superboys Of Malegaon in Mumbai. The film is based on the fascinating Malegaon film industry and its pioneer Nasir Shaikh also graced the event.

Superboys Of Malegaon trailer launch: Nasir Shaikh told Zoya Akhtar, “I know who you are. I have COPIED your father’s films”; Ritesh Sidhwani remarks, “The PROBLEM is the prices of tickets in cinemas”

Zoya Akhtar began by saying, “Nasir and I met at the Osian Film Festival in Delhi. They used to organize an incredible film festival. I went there once when I saw Nasir across the hall. Our eyes met. He recognized me while I recognized him. We both walked to each other, and I introduced myself. He told me, ‘I know who you are. I have copied your father’s films’! That was my first meeting. He had my whole heart.”

Varun Grover quipped, “One more level of Meta is that Nasir remade Sholay and now Zoya (telling) their story.” Zoya Akhtar added, “We stayed in touch. We used to meet whenever he came to Mumbai. We realized that there’s more to his story and this personal life is extremely inspiring.”

When Nasir Shaikh got the beat, he took Zoya Akhtar’s hand and placed it on his chest. He said, “Dekho, meri heartbeat badh gayi hai! I am happy; too happy. I want to thank Reema ji and Zoya ji. They made a film on my life. I am so excited.” By now, he had tears in his eyes.

Varun Grover raised laughs as he said, “Nasir has had the habit of documenting his life from his childhood. He’s one of the best archivists I know. He has a newspaper clipping of him acting in a play when he was 15. He also has multiple copies of that newspaper, just in case. NFAI (National Film Archive of India) mein aag lag gayi thi lekin inke documentation bache hue hai! He has even scanned those documents and images.”

He further stated, “His father did trick photography way back in 1965. He has a photo of him playing chess with himself! It’s a nicely done trick photography. It gives us an idea of the filmmaking origin in the family.”

Superboys Of Malegaon is all set to release in cinemas on February 28 and a lot of journalists asked about it. When the actors were asked if they preferred to have OTT or theatrical, Vineet Kumar Singh brought the house down as he joked, “Mere haath mein katora hai. Jo daalna hai, daal do!”

At this point, Ritesh Sidhwani noted, “I am standing in a theatre that too in the presence of Anil Thadani. Still, I’d like to say that the problem is the prices of tickets in cinemas. On Cinema Days, we see ticket prices go down and it leads to a lot more footfall. If we can have a price point that is more affordable, you’d see a bigger turnout. One can reason that they can also catch the theatrical film on a streaming platform. But for that, you have to wait for 8 to 10 weeks.”
