Now, Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, one of the best Premier League defenders around, has revealed that an iconic Arsenal defender is his dream centre-back partner.

Indeed, Guehi picked said player over Chelsea legend John Terry, Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand and Manchester City hero Vincent Kompany.

Guehi is the latest guest on Sky Sports show The Sticker Book Challenge, where he was asked about a number of his peers from past and present.

One of the segments was called Dream Defender, in which Guehi would be hypothetically bringing a Premier League legend out of retirement to play alongside.

Guehi had to choose between Terry, Ferdinand, Kompany and Tony Adams, and he opted for the Arsenal legend.

“I’m going to be different, I’m going to go Adams,” he said.

When asked why, he said: “Nostalgic, he’s like one of the original – I would say like Mr Arsenal.

“Also what he’s gone through in his career as well, and for him to still be playing the way he was at such a high level…

“You know, playing for England, captaining Arsenal, win the league… just a real example, I would love to play with someone like that. So yeah, Tony Adams.”

Adams spent the entirety of his 19-year club career as a centre-back at Highbury.

He made 672 total appearances for Arsenal and won four English league titles.

Adams uniquely captained a title-winning team in three different decades – in 1989, 1991, 1998 and 2002.

He also won three FA Cups, two Football League Cups, a UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and two FA Community Shields.

In addition, Adams won 66 caps for England between 1987 and 2000, and played at four tournaments with the Three Lions.

Adams is one of six people honoured with a statue outside the Emirates Stadium.
