Hear me out: Barrel-leg and wide-leg jeans are far from out, but the fashion scene has started to re-embrace fitted features. Don’t believe me? Just look at Kendrick Lamar’s viral thigh-skimming flares and Taylor Swift’s skinny bottoms. And more recently, Meghan Markle joined in on the contoured fun.

Markle attended an Invictus Games tubing event wearing a cozy winter outfit, including an Aritzia Super Puff jacket, Sorel khaki snow boots, and a snuggly cream turtleneck sweater. Though, it was her just-right pants that caught my attention.

The chic bottoms met somewhere in the middle of skinny and wide-leg jeans, offering a linear fit that wasn’t too tight or loose. IMO, this makes for the comfiest kind of denim, doing without extra fabric or suffocating the legs. 

Other celebrities seem to agree, with Jennifer Garner and Blake Lively giving the ‘90s-inspired look their stamp of approval. I get it, since straight-leg jeans are extremely flattering, skimming the wearer’s curves for a streamlined finish. The structured design also balances the silhouette without overwhelming other clothing separates, making it easy to dress the pants up or down.

But I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t call out the pants’ stark-white hue. The cloud-like color is part of what makes the style so good, since it serves as the perfect base to exciting spring pieces (think: floral blouses and knit cardigans). Essentially, it’s the ideal blank canvas to build upon—and one many will be wearing this upcoming season.
