The 25-year-old forward’s contract with Berekum Chelsea is set to expire on June 30, and sources close to the player have confirmed that he will not renew his deal. Amankona is now eyeing a new challenge ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, making Sunday’s fixture against Dreams FC his final appearance for the club.

A representative from Elite Sports Management, the agency handling Amankona’s affairs, revealed that talks have begun with several potential suitors. South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, as well as Danish Superliga side Randers FC, are among the clubs monitoring his situation.

“He (Amankona) has delivered three excellent seasons at Berekum Chelsea, and this is the right moment to take the next step in his career,” the source said. “Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Randers have all shown interest, but no formal offer has been made yet. We’ll carefully assess the best environment for his development this summer.”

Amankona has been in outstanding form this season, netting 14 goals in 26 Ghana Premier League matches. His overall tally for Berekum Chelsea across both spells stands at an impressive 33 goals in 55 appearances. Known for his versatility in attack, he is effective on both wings and through the middle.

During his first stint with the club between 2016 and 2020, Amankona scored 21 goals in 57 games. He later joined Asante Kotoko, where he scored seven goals in 15 appearances over a one-and-a-half-season spell before returning to Berekum Chelsea in 2022.

On the international front, Amankona has earned two caps for Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars. Both appearances came during the African Nations Championship qualifiers in 2024.

With his contract winding down and his form peaking, Stephen Amankona is set to be one of the most sought-after Ghanaian players in the upcoming transfer window.
