St Albans fans 'appalled and insulted' by 2025/26 season ticket prices after relegation

Published 17 hours ago7 minute read

Fans will have to pay a whopping £315 to purchase a season ticket to watch the Isthmian League Premier Division side who last season were relegated from the National South after finishing 21st and a point from safety.

Despite fewer home games and a demotion, Southampton FC has increased adult season ticket prices from £285 to £315 and concession tickets from £185 to £205 for the 2025-2026 season, citing rising operational costs and national insurance contributions. Match day tickets remain at £18, with the club considering continuing the £16.50 early bird offer.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Dear Valued Supporters,

As we reflect on a challenging season that has seen our club relegated, I want to personally thank each one of you for your unwavering passion and support. Your loyalty is the heartbeat of this club, and we are committed to working tirelessly to return to where we belong.

Following careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to implement a slight increase in the season ticket prices for the upcoming season. This decision was not taken lightly. Despite relegation, the club faces rising operational costs, the rise in national insurance contributions have added to the overall cost of the operation significantly and all clubs are struggling to absorb this, the loss of the national league funding has also contributed to the worsening position.

The season ticket offering was kept lower than normal last year and therefore we needed to bring it in line with match-day tickets. This modest adjustment will help ensure we support the financial stability needed to compete effectively while continuing to invest in the future of the club.

We are pleased to confirm that match day ticket prices will remain unchanged, ensuring that attending games is still accessible for all fans. Some clubs at step 3 have already indicated that due to the financial burdens put on them by the government they will have to raise their match day ticket prices. We understand the importance of keeping football affordable and are committed to balancing this with the club’s long-term ambitions.

Your support means everything, and we are determined to repay your faith on the pitch. Together, we will rise again.

With gratitude,

Tony Gauthier

General Manager

We put forward proposals regarding ticket prices for the forthcoming season when we met with the club recently.

“We argued that it should be in line with other clubs at step three, while also noting there are two less home games.

“We therefore do not agree with the ticket prices the club announced and understand the frustration that supporters are feeling.”

The chairman of the trust, Ian Rogers, went on to say that they had arranged a fans forum which will be held on Thursday, June 19 at 7.30pm.

“On behalf of a large selection of the St Albans City fanbase, we are appalled and insulted by the club’s decision to raise the price of season tickets, despite our relegation.

“This is both tone deaf and offensive.

“To put it in perspective. Early bird prices at Dulwich Hamlet and Potters Bar Town, both in the Isthmian League Premier Division as well, are £186 and £130 respectively.

“Even our rivals and National League side Boreham Wood, who are now two leagues above us, the cost of a season ticket there is £230, £85 cheaper than ours.

“Last season fans stuck by this club in one of the most chastening seasons in its history and proved their unwavering love for St Albans City.

“And while we appreciate the club has increased costs and wants to have a competitive budget, these season ticket prices are a slap in the face to your loyal fans.

“These actions show you are taking the fanbase for granted.

“We demand there is an immediate reassessment of all prices for the upcoming season and we urge those running the club to listen and immediately lower the prices of your adult season tickets, and reinstate the discounted online matchday adult admission rate of £16.50.”

: Good prices, if you’re a championship club

: Shame on you 🐀 Levy.

: £315 (£14.32 per game) at Step 3 😳

: Absolutely love this club & personally obviously happy to pay, but it does feel like a real shame for a club that prides itself on its inclusivity to hit the most loyal fans – after a difficult season and going down a league – with such a rise in season ticket prices. There are people who will really struggle with this

: If I had to pay adult I’d boycott this btw. Not fair to price out fans at step 7 of English football. I could get behind £16.50 most for adults. £3 more than any club at our level is absolutely disgraceful. This club is actually making the exact same mistakes as the 2018…

: Pleased to announce!? Fans aren’t stupid, paying the same amount for a lower level of football, a baffling decision. There is also less games in the Isthmian league, so putting up ST prices is yet another example of our fans being disregarded. Expect a lot of unhappy fans, again

: Wow you fans should be ever so grateful to pay the same price for lower level football!!! Who approved this bollocks of a statement!

: Be the most expensive in the league by £3 joke what a way to put people off rather then bring them in

: Scandalous for level 3 of non league crowds will decrease 🙈🙈

: Pleased to confirm? You know you got relegated right? Crowds will dip big time.

: Why are we acting like London clubs with prices?

: Good job you uped the prices recently then ! And got rid of discounted tickets midweek joke of an owner can’t believe the matchday fans put up with this shit

: So how much are season tickets going to be? What about prices with the women’s team? Just have more questions than answers 🤷‍♂️🥴

@sl78942887: Is this the same £20k national league funding which is in place to support community projects not everyday running? Why not get rid of the obscene number of full time staff that are bringing nothing to the table? Start with the clown using AI to produce these statements

@tomrobins20: I havn’t seen the club repay any of the fans loyalty so far this pre season especially what we had to endure last season its shocking really talk about the club needing a massive re set what have we seen Nothing !!!!
