All of South Florida is under a flood watch until Tuesday morning amid heavy rains.
Cities on the east coast of Miami-Dade and Broward are at moderate risk of excessive rainfall, according to the National Weather Service in Miami. Forecasters expect anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of rain in the region due to Monday’s downpour.
“Some areas could see 8 inches or more today, tonight and part of tomorrow,” said NWS Miami meteorologist Robert Molleda. “After tomorrow and through the end of the week, it could be dryer.”
Molleda advises residents be careful when driving through flooded areas — and take precautions.
“Many times the water can be deeper than it looks,” Molleda said.
Areas that may experience flooding include:
▪ Broward: Pembroke Pines, Hollywood, Miramar, Hallandale, Dania Beach, West Park, Pembroke Park, Hollywood
▪ Miami-Dade: Miami Beach, Miami Gardens, North Miami, North Miami Beach, Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach, Ojus, Golden Glades, Golden Beach, Ives Estates
The city of Miami Beach issued a flood watch Monday morning, which will remain in effect until 8 a.m. Tuesday. As part of that, the city has opened nine parking garages for all residents. Parking at those garages will be free until 12 p.m. Tuesday. (Non-residents can use the garages but they will have to pay standard rates.)
The garages at the Miami Beach Convention Center (1901 Convention Center Drive), Fifth Street & Alton Road (550 Lenox Ave.), and City Hall (1755 Meridian Ave.) are not included.
The garages that are included are at the following locations:
