Sony Projectors Officially Return to Europe
Sony officially announces that it is resuming shipping its home and business projectors to Europe.
We shared the disappointing news only three months ago that Sony would cease shipping its well-regarded home cinema projectors to Europe. We now have official word that they're back as of this month.
In a press release, Sony Europe states that its projectors will "resume shipping in the European market starting this month", including the Applause Award-winning VPL-XW5000ES (below) and Bravia Projector 8 (above) alongside the Bravia Projector 9.
Sony's original decision was due to recent amendments to EU export control regulations and trade restrictions.
Sony also tells us that we will see the European debut of the Bravia Projector 7, which will sit in the middle of the range between the XW5000ES and Bravia Projector 8. Word is that the Projector 7 will introduce some features from the latter down to a slightly more affordable but still premium price point.
The Bravia Projector 7 will undoubtedly come packing Sony's XR Processor with XR Dynamic Tone Mapping, Deep Black, TRILUMINOS PRO, and Clear Image for rich contrast, vibrant colours, and 4K upscaling. With IMAX Enhanced compatibility and a 2,200-lumen laser light source in a compact design, the Bravia Projector 7 should offer vivid viewing and low-latency 4K 120fps gaming.
, Head of Professional Displays and Solutions, Sony Europe, told StereoNET:
We're delighted to be able to resume shipping of our projectors, including our latest BRAVIA Projector 8 and BRAVIA Projector 9 for home cinema, seamlessly across Europe, and we're excited to introduce the BRAVIA Projector 7 later this summer. These products have remained available in other regions, and we're now focused on meeting European customer demand as swiftly as possible. We're glad to be back and appreciate the continued understanding and support of our partners and customers.
That is certainly great news for European home theatre fans.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
