Snow Totals: Widespread dusting to 4 inches by Monday

Published 1 month ago2 minute read

A potent cold front will glide across the North Country and Upper Valley Sunday morning through Sunday night. As it moves from west to east, we’re expecting excited south to northwest winds that will gust up to 30+ mph. More importantly, we need to be mindful of snow showers and snow squalls as the front blows on by. Here’s a look at snow totals by early Monday afternoon (before another cold front moves through).

Northern New York will cash in on the most from Sunday’s cold front. It’s a widespread dusting to 4 inches from the St. Lawrence River Valley to the Champlain Valley and places in between. The valleys to the foothills (~1,000 feet) will tap into a dusting to 2 inches. The mid to high slopes (~1,500+ feet) will experience 2 to 4 inches of fresh powder by Sunday night.

Northern Vermont and New Hampshire will average a dusting to 2+ inches. It’s a dusting to around 1 inch for the Champlain and Upper Connecticut River Valley. Once you get to places like Jay Peak and Burke Mountain, it’s more like 2+ inches.

Southern Vermont and the Upper Valley will see the least amount of snow from Sunday’s front. It’s a dusting for the valleys with up to 2 inches for the mid to high slopes, especially around Route 9 from Bennington into Windham counties.

Remember, snow squalls are more intense than run of the mill snow showers. Squalls can create whiteout conditions and snow covered roads in a moment’s notice. Drive safely and remain weather aware, friends.
