Sky Train Case and Calls for AG's Resignation

Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has announced significant progress in investigations, stating that Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi is set to be charged next week. Investigations have revealed that a $2 million payment by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund was unauthorized, with only former CEO Solomon Asamoah and former board chairman Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi aware of and involved in the transaction. Both Asamoah and Ekumfi will face charges, and some board members have offered to testify as prosecution witnesses, offers that Dr. Ayine is considering.

Dr. Ayine noted that investigations by the National Intelligence Bureau, under Director General Mr. Alhassan Kipo's direction and guidance from his office, have been thorough. He stated that investigations into the Skytrain matter are complete, and charges will be filed hopefully next week. The unauthorized payment of $2,000,000.00 by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund was made without board approval, involving only Mr. Solomon Asamoah and Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi.

Meanwhile, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, known as Nana B, has called for drastic action against Dr. Dominic Ayine, suggesting his resignation or removal from office. Nana B referenced Ghana’s Constitution and raised concerns over the Attorney General’s performance. In an interview on Joy News, Nana B highlighted the Attorney General's core responsibilities under Article 88 of Ghana’s Constitution, including serving as the principal legal advisor to the government and initiating criminal and civil prosecutions on behalf of the state.

Nana B quoted from the Constitution, emphasizing the Attorney General’s responsibility for initiating and conducting all prosecutions of criminal offenses and representing the state in civil cases. He also noted the Attorney General’s required presence in all courts in Ghana, underscoring the office's influence and responsibility. Despite these constitutional expectations, Nana B suggested that the Attorney General had fallen short of his obligations, citing accusations of corruption and inefficiency. These remarks follow public criticisms, including those from Gomoa Central MP Kwame A-Plus, who previously labeled Dr. Ayine as corrupt.
