Sixteen suspects, aged between 18 and 45, were arrested during the ongoing Operations Vala Umgodi for contravening immigration laws and engaging in illegal mining. The arrests took place on Wednesday, 14 May 2025, across the Malamulele, Jane Furse, and Maake policing areas.

Seven suspects, aged between 18 and 35, were arrested for violating immigration laws. During the operation, law enforcement recovered mining equipment, including Phendukas, spades, shovels, and pickaxes.

Three suspects, aged between 19 and 29, were arrested for immigration violations. In a separate incident, a 42-year-old suspect was arrested for illegal mining in the Maake policing area. Authorities confiscated a white Toyota tipper truck and two shovels.

Four male suspects, aged between 23 and 45, were arrested for immigration-related offences. Additionally, a 45-year-old suspect was apprehended at Ga-Molepane Village, and a TLB machine was seized.

All arrested suspects are expected to appear before their respective local Magistrate’s Courts soon. Police investigations into the cases remain ongoing.

Operations Vala Umgodi continues to target illegal mining and immigration violations across Limpopo, with law enforcement recovering tools and vehicles used in unlawful activities.
