Siemens and GVI Ghana launch EmpowerTech Program to equip girls in Ghana with future-ready STEM skills

Published 21 hours ago2 minute read

Siemens, in partnership with GVI Ghana, proudly announces the launch of the EmpowerTech Program, a transformative three-year initiative designed to equip young Ghanaian women with essential digital and STEM skills.

This program aims to bridge the gender gap in technology and empower the next generation of female leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Each year, the EmpowerTech Program will welcome 100 girls from underserved communities in Kokrobite, Ghana, providing them with hands-on training in digital tools, coding, AI, and professional development.

The initiative directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those focused on Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), and Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8).

“At Siemens, we support the development of talent. EmpowerTech is more than a training program, it’s a launchpad for young women to become creators, problem-solvers, and leaders in the digital economy.

"By investing in their potential today, we’re shaping a more inclusive and sustainable tomorrow,” said Sabine Dall’Omo, CEO for Siemens Sub-Saharan Africa.

Siemens will provide laptops, a tailored curriculum, and certification for participants, while GVI Ghana will host the program at its local resource centre and ensure community engagement and support throughout the initiative.

“GVI Ghana is delighted to collaborate with Siemens on this life-changing initiative. EmpowerTech will open doors for girls who have the talent but not the tools.

"Together, we’re not just teaching skills—we’re building confidence, ambition, and a pathway to opportunity,” said Matt Craig, Manager at GVI Ghana.

The first cohort begins in June 2025, with a structured curriculum covering Microsoft Office, Canva & AI, Google Apps, Arduino Experimento, and a capstone project.

Monitoring and evaluation will follow each cycle to ensure long-term impact and continuous improvement.
