Shiites Movement Says Nigerian Army Personnel Shot Several Members In Abuja During Pro-Palestine Solidarity Procession | Sahara Reporters

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has reacted to the brutal assault on its members by the Nigerian Army in Abuja, accusing the Nigerian government of injuring several members who were part of a procession showing solidarity with the "oppressed people of Palestine."
The group made this claim in a post on its official X handle after the tension on Friday.
The IMN said, "Muslims participated in the International Quds Day procession in many cities and towns across Nigeria. The procession is held annually in solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine. In Abuja, the Nigerian Army attacked the procession, and several people sustained gunshot injuries."
SaharaReporters earlier reported that there was tension in the Wuse area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, due to persistent gunshots as Nigerian Army personnel attacked and shot at members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) near Banex Plaza.
A source in the area had told SaharaReporters, "There has been a rain of sporadic shootings by the Nigerian Army around Austoma Petrol Station/Banex Axis on Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja."
Some parts of the road have been cordoned off, likely to apprehend Islamic protesters who might be hiding nearby.
"I had to abandon my car at the Ahmadu Bello/Aminu Kano Crescent traffic light because of the shootings," the source added.
The clash occurred just hours after the United States Embassy in Nigeria issued a security alert, warning its citizens about planned IMN protests in Abuja and other major cities on Friday.
In the advisory, the US Embassy cautioned that the demonstrations could lead to disruptions such as roadblocks, traffic congestion, and possible confrontations.
“The Islamic Movement of Nigeria has called for demonstrations in Abuja and other major cities on Friday, March 28, 2025. Heavy traffic and other disruptions are possible. Based on past occurrences, protests may involve roadblocks, checkpoints, traffic congestion, and physical confrontations,” the embassy stated.
The security warning listed potential protest locations, including Banex Plaza, Berger Junction, Unity Fountain, the National Human Rights Commission Head Office, Eagle Square, Area 10 Shopping Plaza, the National Mosque, Al-Noor Mosque, and Fouad Lababidi Mosque.
