Shekarau, PDP leaders snub Atiku in Kano
Former Governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and the entire leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano on Sunday ignored former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s visit to the family of the late Alhaji Aminu Dantata.
Shekarau, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and leader of the opposition in Kano, was conspicuously missing from the powerful delegation that accompanied Atiku during a condolence visit to the Koki residence of the late Dantata.
Although the former presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 general election has not officially withdrawn his membership from the party, his full participation in the new coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may be responsible for the reaction.
Yet, Atiku was accompanied by former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; former Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Jibrilla Bindo; and a host of other dignitaries.
When contacted, the PDP Chairman in Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Ado Kibiya, told our correspondent that the opposition party in Kano was not aware of Atiku’s visit.
Although the chairman said he was not sure whether the former Vice President was still a member of the PDP, he insisted that the party leadership had no reason to join Atiku on his visit to the Dantata residence.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Atiku described the late Alhaji Aminu Dantata as a phenomenon and philanthropist whose loss would continue to be remembered among business communities and Nigerian citizens.
Atiku made the remark while speaking with journalists shortly after the condolence visit, where he was received by top members of the late Dantata family.
He described the late Dantata as an outstanding philanthropist whose business accomplishments transcended geographical boundaries in Nigeria, Africa, and the world. According to him, the late billionaire was a detribalized Nigerian who contributed immensely to the growth of the country.
