Sharjah: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has successfully concluded its inaugural trade mission to the Republic of Mauritius. Organized in collaboration with the Economic Development Board (EDB) of Mauritius, the mission took place from June 30 to July 3 and aimed to strengthen economic and trade relations while fostering business-to-business engagement between the two regions.

According to Emirates News Agency, the mission sought to explore high-potential investment opportunities and expand cooperation between the business communities of Sharjah and Mauritius. This strategic initiative aligns with the Chamber’s ongoing efforts to attract targeted investments and support the global expansion of private enterprises and local businesses into opportunity-rich markets.

The delegation, led by Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, included prominent members such as Sheikh Majid Faisal Khalid Al Qasemi, First Vice Chairman of SCCI, and SCCI Board Members Ziyad Mohmoud Khairalla AlHaji and
Mohamed Ali Marzook Binkamil. Other notable participants were Dr. Fatema Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of International Relations at SCCI, and representatives from the private sector, including Dr. Lina Al Samkari and Dr. Hassan Al-Kharrat from Al Hanan Ind LLC.

During the visit, the Sharjah Chamber engaged in high-level meetings with senior officials from the Government of Mauritius. The delegation met with various ministers, including Dhaneshwar Damry, Junior Minister of Finance, and Shakeel Mohamed, Minister of Housing and Lands, among others. These discussions focused on enhancing bilateral economic cooperation and exploring investment opportunities in sectors such as real estate, infrastructure development, financial services, tourism, and renewable energy.

Emphasizing the importance of public-private partnerships, both sides explored new avenues for collaboration. The meetings also led to an invitation for Shakeel Mohamed to serve as Guest of Honour at the upcoming Sharjah Real Estate Exhibition ‘ACRE
S’, scheduled for January 2026 at Expo Centre Sharjah.

Abdallah Sultan Al Owais highlighted Mauritius as a dynamic economy and a strategic gateway linking Africa with Southeast Asia. He underscored the significance of this trade mission in deepening economic cooperation and promoting trade and investment flows between Sharjah and Mauritius. Al Owais also noted the advantages provided by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Mauritius, which facilitates trade and increases investment potential across strategic sectors.

The trade mission featured an interactive business forum themed ‘Deepening Economic Ties’, organized jointly by SCCI and EDB. The forum, attended by Mauritian business leaders, showcased presentations on investment opportunities in Sharjah and Mauritius’s innovation strategy.

A significant outcome of the mission was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SCCI and the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI). The agreement aims
to foster collaboration across strategic economic sectors and encourage Emirati companies to leverage Mauritius’s position as a gateway to African markets. This MoU coincided with the 175th anniversary of MCCI, highlighting the deepening relations between the UAE and Mauritius.

The Sharjah Chamber delegation concluded their visit with a field tour of IFFCO Group’s facilities in Mauritius, exemplifying successful industrial and investment expansion in global markets.
