Seyi Tinubu Accusations by NANS President

Seyi Tinubu, the son of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, has vehemently denied accusations made by Atiku Abubakar Isah, a factional President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). Isah alleges that Seyi Tinubu orchestrated a violent attack during the NANS inauguration event in Abuja, offered a bribe for promoting the President, and was involved in his abduction and torture. Seyi Tinubu has responded to these claims, dismissing them as baseless, defamatory, and completely fictional.

Isah claims that thugs loyal to Seyi Tinubu disrupted the NANS inauguration at The Wells Carlton Hotel in Asokoro, Abuja. According to Isah, the attackers wielded cutlasses and firearms, stabbed attendees, looted property, and forced dignitaries like Senator Ibrahim Shekarau and former Governor Idris Wada to flee. Isah described the incident as politically motivated, suggesting it was a response to his refusal of a N100 million bribe allegedly offered by Seyi Tinubu and Minister Ayodele Olawande to promote President Bola Tinubu.

Isah further alleges that he was abducted on April 15, stripped naked, and beaten. He claims that this was done in collaboration with the MD of NTA and that he was forced to resign his position. Isah stated that he released a press statement indicating he was forced under duress. He also alleges that those involved threatened to release a video of the assault and claimed Seyi Tinubu would order a cover-up if they were killed.

In response, Seyi Tinubu has taken to Instagram to categorically deny all allegations. He stated that he has never met or held discussions with Comrade Isah in Lagos or anywhere else. He also denied visiting any location with thugs. Seyi described Isah's allegations as lies aimed at defaming his character, expressing disbelief at the confidence with which Isah made the accusations.

The allegations have sparked reactions from various quarters. Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-political organization, has dismissed Isah's accusations as unfounded and politically motivated, suggesting that Isah is acting as a proxy for opponents of President Bola Tinubu. Afenifere questioned the credibility of the accusations, noting that Isah's activities are visibly aligned with anti-Tinubu political figures, citing the presence of figures like Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi on Isah's banner during the inauguration.

Henry Okunomo, a former senate president of NANS, has also weighed in, stating that the association is becoming porous due to the alleged involvement of the president’s son in its affairs. He lamented that the ideology of the student body has shifted from advocacy for students to political patronage and questioned Seyi Tinubu’s interest in NANS.

The situation remains contentious, with Seyi Tinubu's denials contrasting sharply with Atiku Abubakar Isah's detailed allegations. Calls for a formal investigation to clear the air have emerged, and the public awaits further developments in this unfolding saga.
