After playing Charlotte York in the Sex And The City and the sequel And Just Like That for almost 30 years, it's little wonder that actress Kristin Davis feels affection for her character.

And this was more than evident when the actress broke down during an interview on British daytime TV show Lorraine, broadcast on Friday, June 6.

The star was being interviewed by entertainment reporter Lucie Cave when she was asked what she'd learned to appreciate playing Charlotte, who was introduced to viewers in the late '90s as one of four young New York-based women, who despite their differences and ever-changing sex lives stick together through the ups and downs of life.

Kristin replied: "Oh it's so hard to separate really, right, because I've been playing her for so long and sometimes people ask me questions like that it's hard to be objective.

"But I do think the thing about Charlotte which is interesting over this huge amount of time she's been in my life is she wanted a whole set of things that were not really what I wanted.

"I wanted a whole set of things that she allowed me to have because it had to do with my creative expression and my career, right? So she gave me those gifts, which might make me cry..." continued Kristin with her voice breaking.

Regaining her composure, she continued: "I think because I was satisfied in my job I was able to then think about what else I wanted and when I was young I never thought about those things."

Charlotte also spoke about how "amazing" it was to still be playing Charlotte in And Just Like That. She said: "It's amazing we ever got to do it in the first place and we never ever thought we would get to continue on at this time in life and it's even more rewarding now."

When Sex And The City aired for the last time Charlotte was married to her second husband Harry and they were raising their adopted daughter Lily when she unexpectedly became pregnant.

In the sequel, And Just Like That, the couple are still happily mattied and navigating life with two teenagers. In real life, Kristin, now 60, has an adopted son and daughter.

Asked what advice she would give to Charlotte, the actress replied: "Slow it down, enjoy yourself, enjoy everything that you have happening because she works so hard to create her life and her family and I just think sometimes she's trying to do too much."
