Senate fails to meet budget passage deadline, extends plenary break

The House of Representatives had on Friday announced the extension of its plenary to the same date for same reason.
Clerk of the Senate, Mr Andrew Nwoba, made this known in an internal memo dated Friday, January 24, addressed to all senators.
It read in part: “Please be informed that there is a change in the resumption date due to the ongoing budget defence. It has been rescheduled from Tuesday, 28th
The Senate had initially set January 30, 2025 as the date for passage of the budget. It was scheduled to resume plenary on Tuesday, January 28 for consideration of the budget report to be submitted by the Committee on Appropriations.
Submission of reports by respective committees to the Appropriations Committee started on Thursday.
