Los Angeles Times via Getty ImagesJust when it looked like Selena Gomez fans would have to wait a while to hear from the pop singer again, she surprised the world by announcing a new era. The actress and musician is teaming up with her new fiancé, Benny Blanco, for a collaborative project in just a few weeks. The world will get to hear what the two superstars sound like when they work together on a full-length project. While the artists have already shared snippets of what’s to come, there’s still plenty more music on the horizon.
The first collaborative album from Gomez and Blanco is titled I Said I Love You First. The name makes sense, as the full-length tells the story of the couple's journey together, and likely at some point on the project, it will emerge who said “I love you” first.
I Said I Love You First is expected to arrive on March 21, 2025. The two artists are not giving fans a very long wait for this set, as it was announced in mid-February. So, longtime supporters of both acts only need to hold on until later this month before they get their hands on the complete project.
Blanco is leading production and songwriting on the project. He's one of the hottest and most in-demand collaborators in today's pop world, so it makes sense that he'd spearhead the set.
Gomez is also co-writing a number of the tunes on the album, if not all of them, since it's so personal in nature. Also credited thus far as producers are Dylan Brady, Cashmere Cat, and Finneas O’Connell. The last songwriter and producer is perhaps best known not just for his solo output but for the work he's created alongside his younger sister, Billie Eilish.
At the time of writing, only one feature has been named on I Said I Love You First, and it's Gracie Abrams. I Said I Love You First was introduced with the track “Scared of Loving You,” which dropped on February 13, 2025, just one day before Valentine’s Day. So far, that tune has not made a commercial impact on the Billboard charts.
The current single from the album is “Call Me When You Break Up,” a collaboration between Blanco, Gomez, and Gracie Abrams. That tune dropped on February 21 and earned a healthy debut on a number of Billboard tallies in short order.
I Said I Love You First will be Gomez's first proper album in half a decade. She last delivered a full-length in 2020 with Rare. It's been even longer since Blanco shared his debut album Friends Keep Secrets. That set, which included many well-known musicians who have worked with the producer in the past, dropped in December 2018.
Since Rare, Gomez has largely been working on her acting career. She's starred in the TV show Only Murders in the Building, and she recently joined the cast of Emilia Pérez, the most-nominated film at the 2025 Academy Awards. She did find time to share a few standalone singles, as well as a Latin EP titled Revelación in 2021.
Gomez and Blanco only announced their engagement in December 2024, after more than a year of dating. Six months later, they'll produce their first album together, as it seems they're not wasting any time in turning their love story into a collection of music that the world can enjoy.
