Security operatives have neutralised 12 suspected bandits and recovered weapons and livestock during a joint operation in the Kurfi-Safana area of Katsina State.

The operation followed an early morning attack on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Rahamawa village in Charanchi Local Council. The bandits rustled 22 cattle and severely injured a resident, 60-year-old Alhaji Danmalam.

The state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Muazu, said in a statement yesterday that the operation, which involved police, army, vigilantes, and community watch teams, led to a fierce gun battle at Dutsen Falale in the Kurfi-Safana enclave.

“The Katsina State government announces the successful neutralisation of 12 armed bandits during a joint security operation in the Kurfi-Safana area,” the statement read.

Muazu disclosed that five AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and all 22 rustled cattle were recovered during the operation. However, a vigilante member lost his life, and a soldier sustained injuries and is receiving treatment.

Tragically, Danmalam, the initial victim of the attack, succumbed to his injuries at the Primary Health Centre in Charanchi.

“On behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda and the people of Katsina State, we sympathise with the families of the deceased and pray to Allah to grant them Al-jannatul Firdaus,” Muazu stated.

He added that the operation underscores the state’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring the public that investigations are ongoing and further updates will be provided.
