SDP Inaugurates Committee to Investigate Gabam for Malfeasance

The Social Democratic Party (SDP)'s National Working Committee (NWC) has taken decisive action following the suspension of its former National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam; National Auditor, Mr. Clarkson; and National Youth Leader, Mr. Ogbonna Uchechukwu. To address allegations of financial misappropriation and malfeasance, the NWC inaugurated a five-member disciplinary committee on July 4.

The newly formed committee is chaired by Mr. Liman S Abubakar, with Mr. Wafari Theman (National Vice Chairman, North East), Dr. Kingsley Obinna Agbo (Ebonyi State Chairman), and Hajiya Laila Mohammed serving as members. Mr. Williams Adelewa will serve as the committee's Secretary. Their mandate is comprehensive, focusing on several critical areas including ascertaining the truth behind the alleged breaches of the party’s constitution, thoroughly examining the party's financial accounts, and investigating the circumstances surrounding the production and submission of audited accounts to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the SDP's name. Furthermore, the committee is tasked with recommending appropriate remedies and providing general advice on improving the financial management of the SDP to prevent future abuse and constitutional breaches.

Speaking at the inauguration, the acting National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe, emphasized the committee's crucial role in purifying and repositioning the party. He stressed that this initiative is vital for the SDP to effectively fulfill its role in Nigeria's political landscape, both in the near future and beyond. Dr. Gombe urged the committee members to approach their duties with the highest degree of transparency, fairness, and impartiality, ensuring that their findings are objective and truthful, without fear or favour. He reminded them of their accountability to the party, the public, and ultimately to a higher power.

Dr. Gombe clarified that the committee's establishment is not intended as a witch-hunt against any member. Instead, its primary objective is to cleanse and prepare the party for the significant role it aims to play in the upcoming 2027 elections and the broader political future of the country. He underscored the pressing need for a credible, dependable, and principled political party in Nigeria, especially at a time when many citizens have reportedly lost faith in existing political structures, positioning the SDP to fill this void.
