Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has extended his condolences to the family and people of Epe Kingdom following the death of the 19th Olu of Epe, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale.

The monarch, who was 86 years old, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, May 31, 2025, a fact confirmed by High Chief Odedeogboro Balogun of Epe Kingdom, Musiliu Adeniyi.

In a statement issued on Sunday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu described Oba Adewale’s death as a significant loss to both the Epe community and the traditional institution in Lagos State.

He noted the late monarch’s dedication to the development of Epe Kingdom and Lagos State, emphasizing that his contributions would leave a lasting legacy.

“On behalf of the government and people of Lagos, I commiserate with the people of the ancient city of Epe, the traditional council, and the deceased’s family, friends, and political associates on the transition of the 19th Olu of Epe Kingdom, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, who joined his ancestors on Saturday,” the governor said.

Sanwo-Olu recalled Oba Adewale’s service as a committed civil servant who rose through the ranks in Lagos State’s civil service, serving as Director of Administration in the Ministry of Education and later as Executive Secretary at the Ministry of Lands before ascending to the throne as a traditional ruler.

“Oba Balogun made lots of positive impact during his lifetime, contributing meaningfully to the Lagos State Civil Service, as well as the growth and development of Epe Kingdom and the traditional institution in Lagos State,” he added.

The governor prayed that “Almighty God be pleased with the soul of the late monarch and grant the royal family and the people of Epe Kingdom the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
