PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan begins a three-day working visit to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, today, where she will also participate in the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Director of Presidential Communications, Ms Sharifa Nyanga, the summit will focus on key continental issues, including the election of a new AU Chairperson for 2025, who will succeed the current leader from Mauritania.
“The summit will also elect new leaders of the African Union Commission, including the Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, and six Commissioners,” the statement read.
Furthermore, the statement elaborated that, the agenda during the AU meeting will also cover Africa’s engagement in the G20, the implementation of AU’s Agenda 2063, and climate change policies.
Additionally, the agenda will include proposal presented by United Republic of Tanzania on promoting Clean Cooking Energy across the continent.
Ahead of the main summit, President Samia is also scheduled to attend the AU Peace and Security Council Meeting on February 14.
