Mohamed Salah becomes the second player since Thierry Henry to win the Football Writers’ Association’s Men’s Footballer of the Year award three times
The association announced the Egyptian as the winner in a on Friday.
He won 90 percent of the votes cast by the association’s over 900 members, which FWA said is the biggest winning margin this century.
The 32-year-old dusted a strong field of nominees, winning the award ahead of Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Virgil Van Dijk, his Liverpool teammate, and Alexander Isak.
Salah scored 28 goals and provided 18 assists as Liverpool won their 30th English Premier League (EPL) title. The winger also broke the record for the most goal involvements in a single 38-game EPL campaign.
Salah had previously won the award in 2018 and 2021. His latest achievement makes him the second player since Thierry Henry to claim the individual prize three times.
Alessia Russo of the Arsenal women’s team was voted for the women’s FOTY award category.
The winners will receive their trophies at the Footballer of the Year dinner on May 22 in London.
