Ryan Gosling in Talks to Star in Deadpool & Wolverine Director's Star Wars Movie

Ryan Gosling may be teaming up with Shawn Levy for his next big role. Currently, the Deadpool & Wolverine director is working on a Star Wars project, and he reportedly wants Gosling to lead the cast.

Per The Hollywood Reporter,. The update comes about three years since Levy first began his early work on the project in 2022 alongside his filmmaker partner Jonathan Tropper, with whom he worked on This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project. Levy is also serving as a producer on the project under his 21 Laps umbrella alongside Kathleen Kennedy for Lucasfilm.

However, Gosling's apparent interest in the Star Wars project reportedly made the sci-fi franchise film take priority. If the deal with Gosling goes through, production on Levy's Star Wars film would be expected to be fast-tracked, given the Barbie actor's star power. The film could even potentially start shooting this fall, per the new report.

This news comes ahead of the franchise's return to the big screen in 2026. Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian & Grogu movie is scheduled to hit theaters on May 22, 2026, and there are several other planned Star Wars projects in the works in different stages of development. Daisy Ridley is set to star in an upcoming film directed bby Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and it could also potentially be released in 2026, but a date hasn't been announced. Other projects in the early works include movies directed by James Mangold and Patty Jenkins.
