Zenit Saint Petersburg (VTB United League) re-signed 31-year old American (has also Ivorian passport) 205cm power forward Alexander Poythress (college: Kentucky) for new season. He played there last season. In 60 VTB United League games he averaged 9.8ppg and 5.0rpg. He helped them to make it to the VTB United League final after they ended regular season as second best team. Good year as he was voted League Player of the Week (2 times). The previous (2023-24) season he played at Armani Milano (Serie A) in Italian league. The team played in three different competitions (!!!) that year, and he was exposed to basketball on different levels. Poythress also played 18 games in Italian Serie A where he had 7.3ppg and 3.3rpg in that year. He contributed to his team winning the league title despite they ended the regular season at the second place. Poythress also played 30 games in Euroleague where he recorded 5.3ppg and 2.7rpg in that year.

He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
Poythress is a very experienced player, having played in six different countries on three continents during his pro basketball career. He has played between China (Jilin Tigers), Israel (Maccabi Tel Aviv), Italy, Turkey (Galatasaray), NBA (Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, Indiana Pacers), and NBA G League (Indiana Mad Ants, College Park SkyHawks).
He was selected to the VTB United League All-Star Game in 2022.
Poythress graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2016 and it'll be his tenth season in pro basketball.
